I have the honour to invite

Your Lordship's attention to the following circumstances:-

▲ few months ago an important case (the Governor

versus Chu Ping) arising out of the Praya Reclamation

Scheme came before the Supreme Court.

The Government desired that the case should be

heard before the Full Court in the first instance, but

Mr. Justice Gompertz, Puisne Judge, declined to sit in the

case on the ground that he had as Acting Attorney General

advised the Government on the subject matter in issue.

The consequence was that the case was taken before the

Chief Justice Sir Francis Piggott sitting alone and in

the absence of the Pulsne Judge Mr. Justice Gompertz there
